This is me (left) and Rachel (right) with our friend Steve on the day he graduated from law school. Dontcha just LOVE those glasses?! Not sure why we were wearing glasses that day because 99% of the time we wore contacts back then. I always thought Steve was a cutie-pie but he had eyes only for Rach and she wasn't interested. Steve was our favorite bartender at our favorite bar. We spent WAY TOO MUCH time there in those days. Enough that Steve kept my inhaler (asthma) in his cash register, because the cigarette smoke always caused me problems. Soooooo.... does anybody else have middle-of-the-night roommate stories to share? We're off to a good start here. :-) (See comments in previous post.) |
Geez, I used to have your same haircut & glasses.
I had 3 different roommates at UW. None were my best friends, but we had a good time. The first gal was from Georgia, and she used to keep me awake at night telling me of the "days of lore" in the south, and how you needed certain gloves & certain perfume for certain events, teas, times of day. I was trying to go to sleep. Yawn!
My next roommate was quite exciting. I was a junior and she was a freshman. She ran with a wild crowd. I met her and she was playing her Heavy Metal music when she opened the door. I look more like Rebecca of SunnyBrook Farm, so she rather turned up her nose at me. We actually turned out to be each other's favorite roommates. She used to keep me up late at night until I could repeat back to her the lyrics of her favorite songs. Why? Who the hell knows. I guess she wanted to control me or something. The most ridiculous one was the lyrics of "hey little thing let me light your candle causa momma I"ma sure now to let you now blah blah blah". I forget who sings that, but it will stay with me forever. An exercise in futility if you ask me.
By the end of the year, she actually switched over to more my style of things, and joined a sorority. And I never joined a sorority. Go figure.
Oh sweet Jesus! I can't believe I forgot the best story of all! The summer between my junior & senior year, I rented a room with two girls, in a fraternity at UW. I had no idea what I was getting into, I just knew that the cost was only $350 for June thru September, the whole summer. How can you beat that? I can't repeat the stories. They are unbelievable and autrocious. Everything you hear about fraternities and then some. I used to lock myself in my room at night. Scary people lived there!
